Money in Medicine

Insurance companies control and have 70% of all the money that exists in the healthcare system!  Medicare comprises approximately 25% of the 70% and the balance of the money sits with the major private insurance companies, such as Blue Cross and Blue Shield.  Read that last statement again.  Of the remaining 30%, hospitals control and have approximately 20%. The last 10% is with physicians.  In 2006 Americans spent $2.1 TRILLION on healthcare services.  Let’s put numbers and players together.

Insurance Entities: $1,470,000,000,000

Hospitals:  $420,000,000,000

Physicians: 210,000,000,000

There are about 500,000 physicians in the USA.  Simple math shows that the entire American public pays out about $42,000/physician per year.  The balance of the physician’s salary comes from fees paid to the physicians by the insurance companies.  But, look at the numbers and who’s in control.  In basic terms, for every $100 paid out by patients, $70 go to insurance companies and entities (the keepers of the money), $20 go to the hospitals and the last $10 go to the providers.  The people actually DOING the work, who were trained to give the care and who accept the liability only earn 10% of the dollars.  With this mind,  it becomes very clear why physicians have a hard time spending time with patients.  Insurance companies pay them based on number of patients seen, since that drives the insurance revenue up.  Consequently, quality suffers and patients never know what’s happening to them.  This is the driving force behind MDAtYourService.  There is another reason MDatYourService.com is an invaluable tool for patients and there families.  With MDatYourService.com your money goes DIRECTLY between the patient and the physician.
